Role of MicroRNA in triple negative breast cancer, Patanjali’s research finds this

New Delhi: Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) is a dangerous cancer that occurs in the breast among woen. The cancer spreads rapidly from one organ to another and is not easy to control it.

Patanjali Shodh Sansthan (Patanjali Research Institute) has done a research on the role of microRNA on this cancer. It has been found that microRNA can play an important role in preventing metastasis in TNBC. Some microRNA can act as a suppressor on the cancer tumor and can help prevent it from growing.

The Patanjali research has also shown that effective methods are needed to develop treatments based on microRNA. Nanoparticle-based technology can target microRNA and deliver it to TNBC cells which can reduce its growth rate.

What is triple negative breast cancer?

Triple negative breast cancer is a breast cancer that lacks estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors and HER2 receptors. This type of cancer has a higher histological grade, a higher risk of recurrence and a higher mortality rate than normal cancers. MicroRNAs can prevent triple negative breast cancer from spreading to other organs. To develop treatments based on microRNAs, it is important that microRNAs are effectively delivered to cells.

MicroRNAs act as tumor suppressors

The research by Patanjali also shows that microRNA acts as an oncogene or tumor suppressor on this cancer. This means it prevents cancer cells from spreading and keeps normal cells healthy. MicroRNAs can also prevent TNBC from growing. It can control processes like epithelial to mesenchymal transition, intravasation, extravasation, stem cell niche and migration.

Some challenges too

Research has revealed that microRNAs can prove helpful in preventing TNBC, but it also has some challenges. Further research is needed to understand the role of microRNAs in TNBC and to uncover their therapeutic and prognostic potential. This will reveal how effective microRNAs are on this cancer and how much and in what way they can be used.
