New Delhi: Controversial Internet personality Bobby Kataria was reportedly arrested on Monday (May 27, 2024) for alleged human trafficking. The social media influencer was held after two individuals approached Gurugram police, claiming that he had defrauded them of over Rs 4 lakh by promising them employment abroad.
According to a news agency, the action was taken following the complaint filed by Arun Kumar and Manish Tomar. It is being said that the duo got to know an opportunity to work abroad through an advertisement on Instagram, posted from Bobby’s official Instagram ID and YouTube channel.
Arun met him in his Gurugram office on February 1, 2024, where he paid Rs 2,000 as a registration charge. He further told the police that he then transferred Rs 1.5 lakh to Bobby’s account and got a ticket for Vientiane.
On the other hand, Manish gave Rs 2.59 lakh to Bobby and he too got a ticket to Vientiane. Arun was assured of getting a job in the UAE, while Manish was promised employment in Singapore.
Upon reaching Vientiane, they were thrashed and their passports were taken away. Manish and Arun were forced to commit cyber fraud. Arun further revealed that around 150 Indians – brought there through human trafficking – were being held hostage.
After somehow managing to escape, when Manish and Arun asked Bobby to return the money but he refused. An FIR has now been registered against Bobby and others under Sections 323 (causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), 420 (cheating), 364 (abduction), 370 (buying and disposing of any person as a slave), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and section 10/24 of the Immigration Act.

Bobby enjoys a massive following on social media. However, his Instagram, Facebook and YouTube accounts now seem to be deactivated. Bobby made headlines in 2022 following his arrest by the Delhi Police for smoking inside an airplane. In the same year, a Dehradun court issued a non-bailable warrant against him after he had shared a short clip on the Internet in which he was seen drinking in public and blocking a road.
Bobby was also accused of thrashing a woman, posting vulgar messages about her on social media and giving her death threats in 2022. An FIR was registered against him for the same. He had been arrested in Gurugram for misbehaving with police personnel as well.
