New Delhi: As India has historically been more known for producing skilled spin bowlers than express pacers, every time a tearaway fast bowler bursts onto the scene, there is an air of excitement surrounding the individual.
Prasidh Krishna was one of those unpolished fast-bowling gems who announced his arrival in the Indian Premier League (IPL) amidst a lot of anticipation in 2018. The lanky fast bowler, playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), bowled with express pace, consistently breaching the 145 kmph mark and occasionally hitting 150 kmph on the radar gun.
But Prasidh, despite showing immense potential, was not as consistent with his bowling discipline as he was with his bowling speed.
Prasidh Krishna’s IPL career: A rollercoaster ride
The 6’3′ Karnataka fast bowler could only use his raw pace and extra bounce to good effect in patches. Pace is important, but in premier cricket, it can backfire if the lines and lengths are not up to the mark. Prasidh struggled for consistency in his four-year stint with KKR, picking up 30 wickets with his economy rate over nine in all four seasons.
His first season with the Rajasthan Royals (2021), who bought him for a massive Rs 10 Crore deal, was his best in the league. For the first time in his IPL career, Prasidh conceded below nine runs per over and picked up 19 wickets to guide RR to the final.
But just when he was gaining momentum, Prasidh was ruled out of the 2023 and 2024 editions of the IPL after suffering a stress fracture of the back in 2022 and a quadriceps injury in 2024.
After recovering from a long injury lay-off, Prasidh was snapped up by the Titans for Rs 9.50 crore ahead of IPL 2025.
Given his tough run in the last two years, it seemed Prasidh would take some time to get in the groove. However, the former KKR bowler has started from where he left off in 2022 and has made a strong return to the tournament.
With 16 wickets in 8 matches, Prasidh is second in the Orange Cap list, just two wickets behind leading wicket-taker Josh Hazlewood of RCB. His economy rate of 7.29 is the best among the top six bowlers of the season.
Prasidh has picked up wickets at every stage of the tournament with accuracy and variations main reasons of his potency in the tournament so far.
The ompact of Ashish Nehra’s mentorship on Prasidh’s success
Speaking on the JioHotstar Press Room, Prasidh opened up on his remarkable season so far and credited better planning and guidance from Ashish Nehra for helping him stay confident and focused.
“I didn’t do anything different — the preparation was better. I was clear about what I needed to work on, put in the hours, and had the right conversations with Ashish Nehra. One key thing I’ve learned from him is reading the conditions and making smart decisions at the top of your run-up. That builds confidence, and when you’re confident, you just want to play more games and contribute to your team’s success,” he told the media personnel.
Prasidh now turns his focus to face his former team Rajasthan Royals, on Monday, April 2,8 in Ahmedabad. Titans will go to the top if they overcome the Royals’ challenge, while the Pink Army will drop to the bottom of the table with their seventh defeat of the season.
Prasidh Krishna’s IPL journey has been marked by both incredible speed and frustrating inconsistency. After overcoming back and quadriceps injuries, he’s made a stunning comeback with Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025.
