Andhra Pradesh High Court grants interim bail to MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy

Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday granted interim anticipatory bail to YSRCP Macherla MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy, Tv9 telugu reported.

After hearing both sides of the arguments on Monday, a single judge bench headed by Justice Venkata Jyothirmai Prathapa granted interim bail to the legislator and asked the police to not take any action till the counting of votes on June 4.

Conditional bail:

The court laid down a few conditions for the lawmaker to follow during his time on bail.

The conditions include reporting to the Superintendent of Police (SP) everyday, reporting to the election returning officer on votes counting day. He has been asked by the court to give his address and mobile details and has been instructed to stay within his constituency His passport must be surrendered to the court and party workers must be kept under control, the court said.

The vacation bench of the court previously granted him and other contesting candidates protection from arrest till 10 am on June 6.

Why was Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy booked?

He has been charged with destroying a voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machine at a polling booth on May 13, the day of polling in AP. CCTV footage of the incident showed the MLA picking up the VVPAT machine and hurling it to the ground at Palvai gate polling station in the constituency. He and 28 of his followers are charged with attacking Karampudi Circle Inspector Narayanaswamy on polling day when he tried to prevent them. The CI suffered injuries in the attack and is on medical leave.

YCP lawmaker Pinnelli has been booked under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) and Section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant while discharging duties) and others.
