Wayanad: A heart wrenching, yet touchy words by a 3rd grade student from Kannur referring to the Wayanad landslide has melted hearts after it went viral in social media.
Adithi, an 8-year-old student at the Muyyam AUP school in Kannur district has penned her thoughts in her diary, a day after the landslide hit Wayanad region.
She wrote as follows: “Today was my holiday. When my mother turned on the television sets, I saw the news of the landslide disaster near Meppadi. The whole area was flooding. Many people lost their lives and many are missing. Several houses are destroyed completely. On TV, people can be seen crying. Why is the God not saving anyone?”.
Below her words was a representation of a landslide and rocks falling on the house with people scattered around.
The letter is viral in social media ever since it was posted.
Similar such stories are emerging from various parts of the state where young children have been conveying their support while sharing their pain and anguish following the massive landslides that has led to a major disaster in the Wayanad region.
There has been number of instances where children who have collected their pocket money reaching the relief camps and handing it over to the families. In certain places children and youngsters have handed it over to the respective district collectors.
There were over 50 houses at Punjirimattom, the top station bordering the forest. Now, only less than 10 houses remain after the landslide on Tuesday swept everything away.
“We have never witnessed such a situation in our lives. We have lost everything we gathered in our lifetime”, said Moidu, a 50-year-old shopkeeper in Chooral Mala.
