Kolkata: Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej, in some regions is believed by many to bring good fortunes and success. One of the traditions followed by many on this day is to buy gold. It is commonly believed that purchasing gold on Akshaya Tritiya can lead to prosperity. The term Akshaya literally translates to ‘never diminishing.’
Add to it the financial adage that gold is an object of safe-haven value which is a value preserver. Significantly, gold is having a record-breaking run this year in terms of price. Only last week, the price of gold 999 (the 24 carat variety) kissed the psychologically crucial level of Rs 100,000/10 grams.

According to reports, the price of gold has witnessed a big jump from what it was at Akshaya Tritiya last year. While it was around Rs 73,500 on Akshaya Tritiya 2024, this year it is around Rs 96,500-97,000/10 grams this year. IN other words, in the past one year, the price of the yellow metal has risen by almost 32%. According to IBJA data (India Bullion and Jewellers Association), the opening and closing rate of gold of 999 purity stood at Rs 96,286 and Rs 96,011 on April 29, 2025.
According to reports, Pankaj Arora, president of the All India Jewellers and Goldsmith Federation, has said that there could be a transaction of about Rs 16,000 crore on Akshaya Tritiya centering Akshay Tritiya.
