New Delhi: Punjab Kings (PBKS) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal bagged a hat-trick against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Wednesday. It was Chahal’s second hat-trick in the IPL as he became only the third bowler after Amit Mishra and Yuvraj Singh to have taken multiple hat-tricks in the tournament.

Chahal went on to dismiss CSK batters Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad on three successive deliveries in the 19th over of their innings to complete a hat-trick against the five-time champions. He had also dismissed CSK skipper MS Dhoni earlier in the over and finished with four wickets from it.

Courtesy of his hat-trick, Chahal finished with excellent figures of 4/32 off his 4 overs and helped Punjab Kings bundle out the hosts for 190 despite a brilliant knock of 88 runs off 47 balls from all-rounder Sam Curran. Chahal also managed to break a major record held by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Sunil Narine with his 4-wicket haul against Punjab Kings.

Chahal’s 4/32 against Punjab Kings was his 9th four-plus wicket haul in the IPL as he broke Narine’s record for most 4-plus wicket hauls in the tournament. Chahal was tied with Narine on 8 heading into the game against CSK. The prolific leg-spinner has now taken 8 four-wicket hauls and a solitary five-wicket haul in his IPL career so far.

Narine, on the other hand, has 7 four-wicket hauls and one fifer to his name. Chahal is also the leading wicket-taker of all time in the IPL with 218 wickets in 170 matches at an average of 22.37. He remains the only bowler to have taken more than 200 wickets in the tournament so far.
