New Delhi: India hammered Sri Lanka by 97 runs in the final to win the Women’s Tri-Nation ODI Series 2025 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, May 11. India rode on a brilliant century from opener Smriti Mandhana and a terrific spell from all-rounder Sneh Rana to complete a resounding victory in the summit clash.
Continuing her purple patch with the willow, Mandhana smashed 116 runs off just 101 balls to set the tone for a big total for India in the final. The Indian vice-captain got the Women in Blue off to a flying start after they won the toss and opted to bat first in the final. She combined with Pratika Rawal (30) to add 70 runs for the first wicket before sharing an important partnership of 120 runs with Harleeen Deol, who scored 47 off 56 balls.
Mandhana’s majestic 116-run knock was laced with 15 fours and two sixes. It was her 11th ODI hundred as she surpassed England opener Tammy Beaumont on the list of batters with the most centuries in women’s ODIs. Mandhana’s ton set the stage for a big total for India before skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (41) and Jemimah Rodrigues (44) added the finishing touches to power the team to 342/7 in 50 overs.
Sneh Rana, bowlers seal dominant win
After Mandhana’s batting heroics, Rana led the show with the ball as she combined with Amanjot Kaur to run through the Sri Lanka batting line-up and wrap up a comfortable win for India. Amanjot struck on the very first ball of Sri Lanka’s chase to clean up opener Hasini Perera on a duck before breaking the 68-run stand between Vishmi Gunaratne and skipper Chamari Athapaththu for the second wicket.
Amanjot clean bowled Gunaratne on 36 in the 14th over to break the stand and provide India with a crucial breakthrough. Athapaththu waged a lone battle with a gritty knock of 51 runs before getting ger stumps rattled by Rana, who also picked up the important wickets of Nilakshi de Silva (48) and wicket-keeper Anushka Sanjeewani (28)to turn the game in India’s favour.
Rana completed her four-wicket haul after cleaning up tail-ender Malki Madra on a duck to finish with excellent figures of 4/38 off her 9.2 overs. Amanjot, on the other hand, finished with figures of 3/54 off her 8 overs in the game. The duo ran through the Sri Lankan batting line-up in the chase to set up a clinical victory for India in the final.
India headed into the Tri-Nation Series against Sri Lanka and South Africa as the favourites and lived up to their reputation with a confident display throughout the series. Rana was awarded the Player of the Series for her impressive bowling as she finished the tournament as the highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets from 5 matches. Mandhana finished as the second-highest run-getter of the series with 264 runs in 5 matches.
