Hockey India League Updated Points Table as Hyderabad Toofans thrash Kalinga Lancers

New Delhi: Hyderabad Toofans outplayed Vedanta Kalinga Lancers 5-1 in the Hockey India League (HIL) match played at the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela on Sunday. The Hyderabad team has moved to the second spot in the updated standings of the Hockey India League.

Argentina-born Germany international Gonzalo Peillat scored a brace to lead the scoring charts of the Hyderabad Toofans. One goal each was netted by Maico Casella, Tim Brand, and Arshdeep Singh in a commanding win over the home team. Belgium’s Alexander Hendrickx was the lone goal-scorer for the Lancers.

It was Lancers who opened the scoring sheet in the fifth minute starting into the game after converting the penalty corner. Hendrickx struck the ball like a tracer bullet to find the back of the net.

The lead was cancelled by Peillat after he struck past Krishan Bahadur Pathak. The Hyderabad team was in lead in the 21st minute of the second quarter after Casella hit one of the eye-popping goals of the season. After receiving an aerial pass from Zachary Wallace, Casella tapped the ball and swiftly smashed the ball across the net from an imprecise angle as the ball hit the roof of the net inside the goalpost.

Peillat added one more goal in the final minutes of the second quarter to put his side in a 3-1 lead moving into the second half. It was another drag-flick converted through a penalty corner. The lead was further extended to 4-1 in the 47th minute as Brand found the net after a goolless third quarter.

After the Lancers took off their goalkeeper to pull one goal, Arshdeep Singh pounced on the opportunity by looping the ball in the empty goalpost area.
