‘Greatest players should play till 50 years of age’: Yograj Singh’s bizarre statement on Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma’s retirement

New Delhi: Former cricketer Yograj Singh, who is known for passing blunt and bizarre comments, once again shocked the entire fraternity by saying that greatest players should play till 50 years of age. This bizarre comment came after two Indian stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from Test cricket in a span of six days.

Speaking to news agency ANI, the father of former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, also said that the both the players leave a big void after calling it quits from the most challenging format of cricket. Yograj said that Virat is a big player and obviously it will be a loss for Indian cricket. The ex-cricketer also drew parallels to Team India’s transition in 2011, saying that the team fell apart in such a manner that it has failed to stand up.

Lot of cricket left in Virat, Rohit

‘When many players were either removed, retired, or coerced into retirement in 2011, the team fell apart and has still not stood back up,’ Yograj said. The former Indian cricketer added that everyone’s time comes but at the same time he believes that both Kohli and Rohit still have cricket left in them. ‘I feel a lot of cricket is still left in Virat and Rohit,’ he asserted.

Yograj also said that he is very disappointed by the decision taken by the duo as he believes that the greatest players should play till 50 years of age and he also feels sad that no one is left to motivate the young players in the camp now. He also criticised the current trend of over-reliance on youth, warning that a lack of experienced leaders could destabilize the team.

Meanwhile, having already retired from the T20Is, both the veterans will be seen donning the Indian jersey in just the ODI format.
