Carlos Alcaraz demolishes Novak Djokovic for second consecutive Wimbledon title

New Delhi: World no. 3 Carlos Alcaraz crushed 24 times Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon 2024 final in straight sets at the All England Lawn Tennis Club on Sunday. The Spaniard downed the World no. 2 with a one-sided win with the scoresheet reading 6-2, 6-2, 7-6. The last set went into a tiebreaker which Alcaraz won 7-4 and etched his name in history by successfully defending his Wimbledon title.

The game was ultimately decided by Djokovic’s hampered movement due to the surgery on his right knee as Alcaraz dominated him with improved serve and a bit of psychological edge as well in the net exchanges. He has now become only the sixth male player to win the French Open and Wimbledon singles trophy in the same year since 1968 after Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Bjorn Borg, and Rod Laver.

To win here is special. To defend here is elite.

It’s his second consecutive SW19 title, also clinching his fourth Grand Slam single title, and is yet to lose a final, winning all the four he has appeared in. Talking about his rivalry with the Serbian star, he has beaten him in consecutive Wimbledon finals and is the only player in the world to do so. He has also ticked off the “surface Slam” triumphing on all the courts that the game is played on – grass, clay, and hard court which he achieved by beating Alexander Zverev in the French Open final at Roland Garros last month.

From a feat of clay to a masterclass on grass 🧡💚

Only six men in the Open Era have won Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year:
