New Delhi: The Malayalam film industry is reeling from shocking allegations against renowned director Omar Lulu. The Kerala police have booked the filmmaker on charges of raping an aspiring actress. The complaint, filed by the young actress, alleges that Omar sexually assaulted her multiple times between January and April under the pretext of offering her a role in one of his films.
Omar Lulu faces rape allegations
An Ernakulam Rural Police officer confirmed that an FIR was lodged following the actress’s complaint. The case, initially registered with the Kochi City police commissioner, has since been transferred to the Nedumbassery police station for further investigation.
In her complaint, the actress detailed how Omar allegedly took her to various locations, promising her a film role while committing the assaults. According to PTI, the police have refused to disclose any further details on the case.
Omar Lulu’s response to rape allegations
Omar Lulu, responding to the accusations, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. In a statement to Manorama Online, he said, “I was friends with this girl who accompanied me on many journeys. I even used to take her to film shoots at her request. However, there was a rift in our friendship in recent times, and we have not been in touch for the last six months. And now that I am about to begin filming my new film, she has come up with these accusations. She may be holding a grudge against me for not casting her in my film or she may want to extort money from me.”
