Lack of funds, interest forces PCB to ditch DRS for home series vs Bangladesh

New Delhi: Pakistan’s upcoming home series against Bangladesh will not have the Decision Review System (DRS) technology, a source close to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed.

The reason behind PCB’s decision is said to be cost issues. A reliable PCB source said that PCB has decided against using DRS due to the lack of interest and funds, which begins on Wednesday.

“It is not cost effective for the board or broadcasters to have DRS technology in the series,” the source told PTI.

The three-match T20I series, which kicks off in Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday, will be played just days after the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) conclusion.

How do the two teams shape up?

Bangladesh will be without the services of some key players due to various reasons. Experienced left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rehman will be sidelined after injuring his thumb while playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Several Bangladesh players and members of the support staff will also miss the tour because of security concerns. Liton Das is leading the side in the three matches.

Pakistan, on the other hand, will be without the services of the experienced trio Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi. Salman Ali Agha will continue to lead, while all-rounder Shadab Khan will be his deputy. Seasoned performers Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah are also picked in the squad.

The home side has also been boosted by the return of trailblazing opening batter Saim Ayub to the lineup. Ayub returns to the international fold after recovering from an ankle injury he suffered while fielding in the second Test against South Africa in February.

Bangladesh arrived in Lahore after suffering an embarrassing 1-2 loss in a three-T20I series against UAE in Sharjah.

The PCB were without the DRS and Hawkeye technology for the second phase of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which resumed after the India-Pakistan military conflict.

As the Indian technicians who handled the technological aspect of both systems did not return to Pakistan following the recent tense border conflict between the two countries, the second phase of the PSL took place without the Hawkeye and DRS systems.
