New Delhi: Fast bowler Jamie Overton has been ruled out of the England’s remaining two one-day international matches against West Indies due to a broken finger. The pacer suffered a broken little finger during the series opening match at Edgbaston on Thursday.
Overton was attempting to take a return catch in the game where the English team registered a massive victory to begin the series on a winning note. As soon as the ball struck his hand, he was seen in immense pain and left the field for treatment but after a while, the 31-year-old came back to bowl claiming three wickets.
Overton expected to be absent for a month
In a massive blow to England cricket team, the player is expected to be out for about a month. Overton will also miss three T20Is against West Indies that succeed the ODI series. Meanwhile, the second ODI match between England and West Indies is scheduled to take place in Cardiff on Sunday, which gives a chance to England to seal the series.
With Overton out, Matthew Potts and Luke Wood are the other two fast bowlers in the ODI squad, with Potts expected to play on Sunday. He is the latest English pacer to miss out due to injury after Mark Wood, Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson were ruled out due to respective injuries.
Meanwhile, England began the series with a commanding 238-run victory over the West Indies after scoring mammoth 400-run total in the first innings as West Indies were folded for 162 runs.
