New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 6 runs and lifted their maiden IPL Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 03. The victory ended an 18-year trophy drought for RCB.
Batting first, RCB scored 190 runs in the 20 overs. Kyle Jamieson got PBKS off to a great start as he dismissed the in-form batter Phil Salt on 16 runs. Virat Kohli tried to bat through but was dismissed by Jamieson on 43 runs. Mayank Agarwal, Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma played explosive cameos and helped RCB to post a good total on the scoreboard.
Arshdeep Singh picked up three wickets and also bowled a brilliant last over to restrict RCB to 190 runs. Jamieson also took three wickets while Omarzai, Vyshak and Chahal picked up one wicket each. Chasing the target of 191, PBKS got off to a brilliant start as Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya forged a 43-run partnership for the first wicket.
Hazlewood removed Priyansh on 24 runs while Krunal Pandya dismissed Prabhsimran on 26 runs. Josh Inglis played a fiery knock and scored 39 runs off 23 balls with the help of four maximums and one boundary but was removed by Krunal, who picked up his second wicket of the match.
PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer only managed to score one run in the summit clash while Nehal Wadhera and Marcus Stoinis also failed to make any contribution with the bat. Shashank Singh played a brilliant knock to keep PBKS in the match till the last over, scoring an unbeaten 61 runs off 30 balls with the help of six maximums and three boundaries, but failed to take his team to glory as RCB clinched their maiden IPL title.
How much prize money did RCB get for winning the IPL 2025?
The winning team of IPL 2025 received Rs 20 crore in prize money, while the runner-up received Rs 12.5 crore. Teams qualifying for the playoffs also win big prize money. Gujarat Titans will receive Rs 6.5 crore for playing the Eliminator, while Mumbai Indians, who lost in the Qualifier 2, will get Rs 7 crore.
