New Delhi: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from Test cricket during the Indian Premier League (IPL-18) last month. The duo will return to the action for a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh in August, followed by a three-match ODI series against Australia in October.

With the ODI retirement looming large, Cricket Australia (CA) are already planning a special farewell for the two greats of Indian cricket, reckoning it might be their last tour to down under. It has been speculated that the two senior players will end their international careers after the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Rohit and Kohli also announced their retirement from T20I after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados. Rohit has played 67 Test matches and scored 4301 runs, while Kohli has amassed 9230 runs in 123 matches at an average of 46.85. Many think that both cricketers might announce their retirement after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027, and the white-ball tour would be an appropriate farewell if that were to occur.

‘We wanna make sure we give them a great send-off’: Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg

Given that there is uncertainty about the future of Rohit and Virat in international cricket and the upcoming Australia tour might be their last one, Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg said in a virtual interview with IANS that they would like to provide a great send-off to Virat and Rohit.

“This might be the last time that we get to see Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma play in our country. And if that is the case, who knows, it might not be, but if it is, we wanna make sure we give them a great send-off and a reflection of the incredible contribution they’ve made to international cricket,” Todd Greenberg said as per IANS.

The Men in Blue are scheduled to play three ODIs and five T20I matches against Australia from October 19 to November 8.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
