Kolkata: Do you have a net worth of Rs 1.52 crore? If you do, you are probably a member of the 1% ultrarich club in India. investment advisor Advait Arora has highlighted this cut off level in a social media post after Prominent property consulting MNC Knight Frank stated in its Global Wealth Report 2025 that India has emerged as a major global wealth hub, with a current population of 85,698 HNIS (high net-worth individuals), which secures it a fourth place behind the US, China and Japan.
While India is growing into an economy where signs of rising affluence often grabs headlines, the threshold of the ultra-rich club starts at Rs 1.52 crore, which according to Advait Arora is a very modest and humble one compared to many countries across the world and not necessarily all of them belong to the developed world. Arora has marked the floor level for the 1% club in the following countries.
The 1% club in different countries
“Want to be in India’s Top 1%? You need ₹1.52 Cr net worth in 2025 (Knight Frank Wealth Report). But how does 🇮🇳 stack up globally?” wrote Arora in his post. Then he listed them:
Monaco: Rs 107 Cr
Switzerland: Rs 71 Cr
Australia: Rs 46 Cr
USA: Rs 48 Cr
Singapore: Rs 43 Cr
UAE: Rs 13 Cr
Brazil: Rs 3.6 Cr
Remember, it’s the networth
If you have started calculating whether you qualify for the elite club, remember it is the networth and not your cash in hand or investments which must be above Rs 1.52 crore. But all your liabilities must be subtracted from your assets to arrive at your networth. “This includes all assets: real estate, equity, fixed deposits, gold, business interests, etc. It does not mean liquid cash or only salary income – it’s net worth, i.e., total assets minus liabilities,” wrote Arora.
Indian billionaires, an expanding club
In 2024, Indian billionaires jumped 12% (year-on-year) to reach 191. According to Knight Frank projection India’s HNWI (high net worth individual) club will rise to 93,758 by 2028. Till December 2024, India’s billionaires cumulatively owned $950 billion in assets, which secures the third rank in the world behind the US ($5.7 trillion) and China ($1.34 trillion).
India has 85,698 high net-worth individuals, which places it at the fourth place behind the US, China and Japan, says property consulting firm Knight Frank Global Wealth Report 2025. If you have a networth of Rs 1.52 crore, you are within the ultra rich 1%, pointed out investment advisor Advait Arora.
