New Delhi: Liverpool have agreed a British-record deal for the transfer of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen on Friday, June 13. According to The Athletic report, the total package is comprised of a €117.5m upfront fee, with a further €18.8m potential add-ons.
It represents a club record fee for Liverpool and a potential British record transfer, if the add-ons are activated. The medical will happen next week when Wirtz returns from holidays. Liverpool signed Darwin Nunez for €75m from Benfica, but the Wirtz deal is set to be a record-breaking one for the reigning Premier League champions.
As per the same publication, Liverpool submitted an improved offer of €134m to sign the German star and had no intentions to meet Leverkusen’s reported asking price of €150m for Wirtz. He was also targeted by Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich this summer, but he favoured a move to Anfield.

The 22-year-old has spent his entire senior career at Leverkusen and has netted 10 goals and registered 12 assists in 25 starts for the club. His team finished second in the Bundesliga table, a year on from winning a league and cup double. He follows his former Leverkusen team-mate Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool after the Netherlands international joined in a €35m deal.
‘Exciting talent’: Liverpool’s Andy Robertson on Florian Wirtz
Andy Robertson opened up about the record signing of the German star and said that he’s going to be a top player and was excellent against Liverpool in the Champions League clash against Bayer Leverkusen.
“If we get him through, an exciting talent through the door. We have already got a lot of exciting talent. He’s a right good player and he’ll only help us. If he does get through the door we’ll be excited to play with him” Robertson told Sky Sports News.
