New Delhi: Team India spinner Kuldeep Yadav revealed he has taken over Rohit Sharma’s seat in the team bus after the former captain retired from Test cricket. Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket last month after the selectors made it clear to him that they were looking to groom a young leader as captain in the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
Shubman Gill was appointed as India’s new Test captain after Rohit decided to draw the curtains on his Test career. Gill will be in charge of the Indian team in their upcoming five-match Test series against England, which is set to get underway from June 20. Kuldeep revealed he has taken Rohit’s seat in the team bus, not to usurp it, but for a logical reason.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, June 15, Kuldeep revealed he has taken the seat where Rohit used to sit when he was with the team, to be next to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja and Kuldeep are the two left-arm spinners in India’s squad for the England Test series, and the latter believes it’s important for him to spend time and learn from his more experienced spin partner.
“Uspe main baithta hu (I sit there),” Kuldeep said during the press conference, speaking about Rohit’s seat in the team bus.
“I can never take Rohit bhai’s place. It’s just that I am spending more time with Jaddu bhai. It’s important as a spinner for me because Ash bhai (R Ashwin) is not there. I have learnt a lot from him. When I started my cricket, I have played with both of them. Very lucky to have Jadeja as my spin partner. I am enjoying it,” the spinner added.
Ashwin was the first senior player to opt for retirement. He retired from international cricket midway through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 between India and Australia. Rohit and Virat Kohli played the entire series, but retired from Tests ahead of the squad announcement for the upcoming England series.
Shubman Gill-led India eye winning start in new WTC cycle
Shubman Gill-led India will be looking to make a winning start in the new World Test Championship cycle with the England series. India lack experience in their batting line-up after the departures of Kohli and Rohit, but they have enough firepower and talent in their ranks to tackle the English conditions. India also have a stromg pace attack led by Jasprit Bumrah, which can win them matches comfortably in English conditions.
Team India spinner Kuldeep Yadav recently revealed who has occupied Rohit Sharma’s seat in the team bus after the former captain’s retirement from Test cricket. Kuldeep is part of the Indian squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
