Tiruchirapalli: The new terminal at Trichy International Airport built at a cost of Rs.1,112 crore which can handle 4.5 million (45 lakh) passengers per year has come into operation from today, June 11, 2024. Prime Minister Narendran Modi laid the foundation stone of the project in 2019 through video conferencing and the new terminal was completed within 3 years and inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on January 2 this year.
“Airports authority of India, Trichy International Airport, proud to announce that operation will be shifted to our New Terminal building w.e.f 11.06.2024 at 0500 hrs. We request our esteemed passengers to kindly make note of the changes and plan their travel accordingly,” a press note from Trichy International Airport read.
An Indigo flight from Chennai to Trichy was the first to arrive at the new terminal. The aircraft was greeted with a water salute. Airport officials celebrated the inauguration of the new terminal by giving sweets to the passengers today.

“The new terminal can handle more than 3,500 passengers at a time. Parking facilities for 750 cars, 250 taxis and 10 buses have been provided. 10 gates for departure, 6 gates for arrival, 60 check-in counters, 40 counters each for Imigiration section, 15 x-ray machines, 3 VIP lounges. Ramp conveyor has been installed to carry passengers’ belongings. An observation tower with state-of-the-art facilities can monitor any part of the runway at a 360-degree angle, a senior offiicer said.
Passengers from 10 flights can be handled simultaneously. The new terminal has the facility to handle 12 flights per hour. At least 240 flights can land and take off in 24 hours. The new terminal of Trichy International Airport has been built on a total area of 75,000 square meters.
