New Delhi: The Nepal cricket team enjoyed fantastic support throughout their group-stage campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 as the fans from the country made their presence felt at the showpiece event. Nepal fans turned up in nig numbers to each of the venues that their national team played in and lifted the spirits of the players with unwavering support.

The same was the case on Monday as Nepal locked horns with Bangladesh in their final group-stage match at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent. Nepali fans flooded the stadium in big numbers and were firmly behind their team as they nearly pulled off a stunning win against Bangladesh. Nepal went down fighting by 21 runs in a hard-fought clash against Najmul Hossain Shanto’s men.

Nepal won the toss and opted to field first in the all-important game. Skipper Rohit Paudel’s decision turned out to be correct as Nepal bowlers ran riot against the Bangladesh batting line-up. Bangladesh lost opener Tanzid Hasan on a golden duck on the first ball of the match before skipper Shanto was removed cheaply on 4 by Dipendra Singh.

The experienced Litton Das too fell cheaply after managing just 10 off 12 balls. Bangladesh kept losing wickets regularly and were soon reduced to 61/6 as Nepal bowlers dominated the proceedings. With every wicket Bangladesh lost in the game, the Nepal fans inside the stadium cheered at the peak of their voice.

An interesting incident took place after Paudel dismissed Bangladesh batter Towhid Hridoy in the 6th over. A Nepal fan came up with an interesting never-seen-before celebration following the wicket as he jumped into a pool right in front of him while holding the Nepal flag with both his hands. The fan’s unique celebration soon went viral on social media and became the talk of the town.

Paudel led from the front with the ball as he finished with excellent figures of 2/20 off his 4 overs to combine with the likes of Sompal Kami and Dipendra to bundle out Bangladesh for a paltry 106 runs in 19.3 overs. However, Nepal failed to clinch a victory despite managing to stop Bangladesh on a low-key total as their batters couldn’t deliver.
