International Yoga Day 2024

Good morning, respected Principal, teachers, and dear students,

Today, we gather to celebrate International Yoga Day, a day dedicated to the ancient practice that has significantly shaped the lives of millions worldwide. International Yoga Day, observed every year on June 21st, was initiated by the United Nations in 2015, thanks to the efforts of our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. This year, we mark its 10th anniversary, and the theme for 2024 is “Yoga for Wellness.”

Yoga, which originated in India over 5,000 years ago, is much more than a physical exercise. It is a holistic discipline that encompasses physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation to promote harmony between the body, mind, and spirit. The word ‘yoga’ itself means union, symbolising the connection of individual consciousness with universal consciousness.

Why is yoga so significant in today’s world? In our fast-paced, technology-driven lives, stress, anxiety, and lifestyle-related health issues have become common. Yoga offers a refuge from this chaos. Regular practice helps reduce stress, improves flexibility and strength, enhances mental clarity, and fosters inner peace. Scientific studies have shown that yoga can help manage chronic conditions, improve mental health, and enhance overall well-being.

On this special day, let us all take a moment to reflect on how we can incorporate yoga into our daily routines. Whether it’s starting the day with a few simple stretches or dedicating time to full practice, yoga can be tailored to fit into our lives seamlessly. Schools and educational institutions play a pivotal role in promoting healthy habits among students, and integrating yoga into our curriculum can be a step towards building a healthier future generation.

Let us also remember the global aspect of this celebration. Yoga is a gift from India to the world, and today, people from all walks of life, regardless of their nationality, culture, or religion, practice yoga. It is a universal language of wellness that transcends borders and unites us all in the pursuit of health and happiness.

As we celebrate International Yoga Day, I encourage each one of you to embrace this ancient practice. Let us pledge to make yoga a part of our lives and spread its benefits to our family, friends, and community. By doing so, we contribute to a healthier, more peaceful world.

Thank you, and let’s look forward to a yoga session today to experience the tranquillity and energy that yoga brings.
