Telangana food safety officials continue inspections, this time in Secunderabad

Hyderabad: Food Safety officials continued their inspections this week, this time at Secunderabad restaurants.

On June 18, the department conducted inspections at Alpha Hotel in Secunderabad and found that raw meat was improperly stored along with semi prepared food articles in refrigerator with possibility of cross-contamination.

Unhygienic conditions like open dustbins, plastering flakes on ceiling were observed. Alpha brand icecream and bread packets were found without manufacturing date and batch numbers. Dust Tea powder packets were also observed without batch numbers, officials said.

Meanwhile, the food business operator (FBO) hindered inspection and refused to sign the inspection report at the end. A case will be booked against the FBO with up to 3 months imprisonment and Rs 1 lakh in fine.

Similar conditions were observed at Raj Bar & Restaurant, Secunderabad with no valid FSSAI license available with the FBO. Rat was found near dustbin area and no rat traps were arranged. Synthetic food colours found in the kitchen and were discarded on the spot, the statement read.

Dustbins were found open without proper lids and food handlers did not wear haircaps and aprons.  Medical Fitness Certificates for food handlers and pest control records not available and  storage of semi-prepared food articles were improperly stored. Premises were not fitted with insect proof screen. while kitchen floor and ceiling was found with patches and dust.

Improperly labelled Jaggery cubes were found at Hotel Sandarshini along with Paratha packets and expired noodle packets.

This comes after several restaurants and PGs, hostels were raided by the food department to inspect if hygiene standards were being followed. Several violations were found at many restaurants across Hyderabad and many parts of the state.
