New Delhi: Ravindra Jadeja clinched the ‘best fielder’ medal as India started their Super Eight campaign with a win over Afghanistan by 47 runs at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on Thursday. Jadeja’s field placement in the hotspot areas always involves him in the match as he displayed impressive fieldwork in the Afghanistan clash.
India’s fielding coach T Dilip praised the whole team’s effort saying, “Everybody worked well and quickly adapted to the field. Players were working well as a unit and also displayed situational awareness in the field, that what they did in the practice sessions, replicated the same on the field.”
Three contenders for the ‘Best Fielder’ medal were:
Arshdeep Singh – His awareness and readiness in the field was great. Arshdeep took Najibullah Zadran’s important catch in the game.
Ravindra Jadeja – Known for his lightning skills and sharp instinct, he was at his best against Afghanistan. Jadeja took three catches – Hazratullah Zazai, Mohammad Nabi, and Rashid Khan’s.
Axar Patel – He is someone who is consistent in the field and has gone unnoticed many times. He showed great game awareness as he runningly changed his positions to field the ball. He took Azmatullah Omarzai’s catch.
