New Delhi: After a resounding 3-1 win over Georgia in their opening game, Turkey take on UEFA Euro 2016 winners Portugal later tonight at the BVB Stadion Dortmund in the second Group F fixture of the night. After an abysmal showing at the previous two editions of the UEFA European Championships, their performance in the first game has filled the fans with a huge sense of optimism heading into the match.
That optimism is evident on the streets of Dortmund as the Turkish fans are out in numbers and are showing their support for this national team hours before the kickoff. The atmosphere in Dortmund is such that it’ll make anyone forget that they’re in Germany as there is a sea of red in the streets, courtesy of the constant waving of the Turkish flag and red flares being used by the fans to gear up for their upcoming game.
Turkey fans have created one hell of an atmosphere in Dortmund! 🎊

The Turkish National team have had a poor showing at the UEFA European Championships ever since reaching the semi-finals in 2008, winning only one game in the tournament since the semi-final defeat against Germany. However, with renewed confidence, they take on a mighty Portugal side consisting of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes among others, and will need the support of their fans with the scenes that are being seen in Dortmund right now, it seems like the fans are doing their part to prep their national side up for the big game.
On top of the Turkish fans’ display, it’s fitting that the game is being played at the BVB Stadion Dortmund, a stadium that is known for its electric atmosphere and is also the home of the new Borussia Dortmund boss, former Turkish International Nuri Sahin. Turkish fans have a reputation for creating the best atmosphere for football games and with them being packed in a stadium that is known for it, it’s certainly a match made in heaven.
Turkey’s fans have not had much to cheer about at the UEFA European Championships recently as their country have had poor showings in their last two appearances, failing to make it out of their group.
