New Delhi: There is always a debate in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings as UFC President Dana White quoted every time he went in any interview or podcast that Jon Jones is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC, but some UFC fighters didn’t agree with White and recently UFC Bantamweight Champion Sean O’Malley picked Islam Makhachev is the best pound-for-pound fighter.
Jon Jones has currently out of action from the UFC since 2023 with an injury and he also came back in 2023 after 2020, From 2020 Jones fought only once in the UFC. O’Malley considered Makhachev over Jones because of Jones’ inactivity in the UFC for the past four years and Makhachev won the Lightweight title and defended his title twice against UFC Featherweight Champion.
Greatest fighter right now? Probably Islam (Makhachev),” O’Malley said. “I mean, Jon Jones is up there. I think Jon’s fought once in the last four, or five years. Jon Jones is up there [as] the greatest of all time, but right now who’s the greatest? Like, who has been active last four years or whatever, I think it’s Islam, but Jon Jones is always going to be in the conversation.” O’Malley in an interview.
Jones is expected to return at the end of 2024 and will fight Stipe Miocic for the UFC heavyweight title. Jones vs Miocic was set for the UFC 295 event but due to an injury Jones pulled out from the fight and now fans are waiting for his return to the Octagon.
