39 Killed in Gaza in Israeli Strike Targeting Hamas Sites

Deir al-Balah: At least 39 people were killed in the recent Israeli air strikes in northern Gaza on Saturday, June 22, as per Palestinian and hospital officials quoted by AP.

Fadel Naem, director of the al-Ahli Hospital told AP that over three dozen bodies arrived at the hospital

Furthermore, the Palestinian Civil Defence, an emergency group active in Gaza, stated that it pulled approximately the same number of bodies from a building hit by an Israeli strike in an eastern neighbourhood of Gaza City. It added that its emergency workers were also digging for survivours at the site of another strike in the Shati refugee camp.

The recent strike comes a day after air strikes on tent camps killed 25 people and wounded some 50 in Rafah.

Israel on Saturday said its fighter jets struck two Hamas military sites in the Gaza City. However, no further information was made available. It added that it will continue to operate in central and southern Gaza with going ahead for its invasion of Rafah.

In a separate Israeli strike on the same day, in Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa Valley a member of the military wing of al-Jamaa al-Islamiya, or the Islamic Group, a Sunni Muslim faction closely allied with Hamas, was killed according to the group.

According to AP, the member was the seventh killed by Israeli strikes in Lebanon since the war began.

The Israel-Hamas war began on Oct 7 after Hamas terrorists who stormed southern Israel killed about 1,200 people and took some 250 others hostage. Responding to the unprecedented attack, Israel bombarded and invaded the enclave, which killed over 37,400 Palestinians there according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between combatants and civilians in its count.
