AUS vs AFG: Pat Cummins records back-to-back hat-tricks to achieve new landmark in T20Is

New Delhi: It seems Pat Cummins has made a bucket list and is firmly ticking off all the boxes on it one at a time. He is leaving no stone unturned in achieving things that are a rarity in the game. He added one more feather to his cap after bagging back-to-back hat-tricks in the T20 World Cup 2024 and has unlocked a new milestone of becoming the first bowler to take consecutive hat-tricks in T20Is. He has also become the first player to pick two hat-tricks in T20 World Cup history.

In the Australia vs Afghanistan Super 8 clash of the ongoing T20 showpiece, Pat Cummins replicated what he did a couple of days back as his hat-trick spanned across two over. In the 18th over of the Afghanistan innings, Pat Cummins bagged his first wicket of the match as he sent back Afghan skipper Rashid Khan who holed out to Tim David at the long on.

He returned to bowl the final over of the innings and started off with his second wicket, removing Karim Janat this time, again with the help of David. In the next delivery, he achieved the unimaginable as he sent back Gulbadin Naib on a golden duck who holed out to Glenn Maxwell at the deep mid-wicket. Cummins had a beaming smile on his face but didn’t celebrate it much which tells a lot about his playing nature. It was almost like he casually did it like nothing really happened.

There’s rarely anything that seems to be left for the blue-eyed boy hailing from Westmead, Australia. He picked up the first hat-trick of the marquee event on June 21 in the Super 8 clash against Bangladesh. The hat-trick was spanned across two overs as he picked up two wickets in the last deliveries of the 18th over and grabbed the final one in the last over’s first ball. With this, he became the second Australian to pick a T20 World Cup hat-trick and the seventh overall to have achieved the landmark in the ICC event.
