New Delhi: It was a fantastic game of football as it was late drama at Deutsche Bank Park where Niclas Fullkrug broke the Swiss hearts to help Germany top group A. The Germans looked threatening all along and they had plenty of chances to go ahead but just couldn’t get the ball to find the net. However, it was the Swiss who eventually took their chance as Dan Ndoye provided the finish to give Switzerland the lead in the 28th minute of the game.
It looked like Switzerland were all set to celebrate a top place finish after leading till the very last minute of the game, but it was Niclas Fullkrug who spoilt the party for the Swiss fans. Right at the finish, David Raum played a wonderful cross into the box which was headed by who else, but Niclas Fullkrug who scored his second goal of the campaign.
Manuel Neuer becomes the most capped goal keeper in the history of Euros
A special occassion for Manuel Neuer who became the most capped goal keeper in the history of UEFA Euro championship with a totla of 18 appearances in this competition. Neuer broke Italy’s Gianluigi Buffon’s record in style as he produced a brilliant performance saving Germany from conceding on multiple occassions. It was a fantastic performance by the veteran goalkeeper who led the defence well, and as always produced some amazing saves to keep Switzerland from scoring a second goal.
The Swiss captain Granit Xhaka took a brilliant first time long range shot towards the German goal forcing the German veteran across his line to push it behind with his fingertips. It was a wonderful stop by Neuer that eventually proved a pivotal point after Fullkrug’s late header that got them a point.
Jonathan Tah suspended for round of 16 match
Before Tah could react, Embolo received a ball in the midfield in front of the technical area. Tah leaped over the striker from behind, bringing him down. The German center defender was given a yellow card, meaning he will miss the opening round of 16 match. It might haunt Germany as Tah has been phenomenal so far, forming a strong duo with Antonio Rudiger. This might just be a big issue for Julian Nagelsmann who trusts Tah and looks impressed by his performances recently.
Niclas Fullkrug becomes the German hero yet again
Deep into stoppage time, Frankfurt Arena exploded into life alive as Nagelsmann’s side managed to reclaim the top spot in Group A and it was none other than Niclas Fullkrug who turned up yet agains to become the German hero. The left-back David Raum swung in a cross in search of a teammate only to find Fullkrug who leaped above all the Swiss defenders to connect with terrific header to send the ball back across Sommer and into the upper corner of the net.
Fullkrug has proven himself as a natural goalscorer and yet again he showed up for Germany when they needed him the most. What a player, as he looks forward to the next round and might prove influential in the latter stages of the competition.
