New Delhi: Senior India pacer Mohammed Shami slammed a dubious report claiming he is the next in line to announce his retirement from Test cricket after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli quit the longest format within a week. Shami has made it clear that he has no plans of hanging up his boots anytime soon, ahead of India’s all-important Test series against England next month.
The Indian Test team is currently undergoing a significant transition after the retirements of R Ashwin, Rohit and Kohli. While Ashwin announced his retirement in December last year, midway through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia, Rohit and Kohli both announced their decision to quit Tests recently.
However, Shami is not planning to give up on his Test aspirations. On Tuesday, the senior pacer took to Instagram to slam a report claiming he was set to follow Rohit and Kohli into Test retirement. He criticised the report, calling it the ‘worst story’ of the day.
“Very well done, Maharaj. Apna job k din bhi gin loo kitna adieu hai. Badme dekh le hamara ap jaise ne satyiyanash kar diya future ka. Kabhi toh accha bol liya kare. aaj ki sabse kharab story sorry (Well done Maharaj. Count the days left in your job, too. You people destroy our future. Say something good at least some time. The worst story today),” Shami wrote on his Instagram story, bashing the report.
