Tamil Nadu: IMD predicts heavy rains in 6 districts till June 25, check IMD’s full forecast

Chennai: The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall across Tamil Nadu on 23, 24, and 25 of June. Kerala and South Inner Karnataka are also expected to receive heavy rain during this period.

“Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puduvai, and Karaikal today due to changes in the speed of westerly winds. Heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places over hilly areas of Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts, hilly areas of Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli districts, and at one or two places in Kanyakumari district,’ the weather agency said.

As far as Chennai is concerned, the sky will remain partly cloudy for the next 24 hours. Light/moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely during the evening/night over a few parts of the city. The Meteorological Department has said that the maximum temperature will be around 35° Celsius and the minimum temperature will be around 25°-26° Celsius.

“The southwest monsoon is expected to pick up gradually from today as the monsoon surge strengthens over Peninsular India. Thunderstorms over leeward areas of Tamil Nadu are also expected to slow down. Isolated short/sudden bursts of Rains are likely over Chennai during evening hours,” Chennai-based weather blogger K Srikanth said.

 With the strengthening of westerlies west coast of India going to be hyper active for the next 1 week. Kerala, Karnataka and ghats of Tamil Nadu will get heavy rains today.
