Hyderabad: Senior Congress leaders including Telangana Minister Sridhar Babu visited MLC T Jeevan Reddy on Monday evening after he raised objections to the joining of Jagtiyal BRS MLA into Congress.
Jeevan Reddy, who was defeated by Sanjay Kumar twice in 2014, 2018 in Jagtiyal Assembly constituency, held meetings on Monday with his supporters. There were rumours that he was contemplating to quit the party to join another rival party but his followers did not confirm it.
Speaking to the media, the senior leader said, “I expected the party to at least inform me before Sanjay joined the party.”
Vakiti Satyam Reddy, a close aide of Jeevan Reddy resigned as the Congress Kisan Cell State Coordinator.
Congress MLC Reddy had already spoken out against a trend of defections being encouraged by Revanth Reddy. He was allegedly of the opinion that workers who stayed with the party for a long time may lose significance. Speculation is rife that 15 more MLAs from BRS may join Congress in the coming days.
Congress aims for two-thirds majority?
In lieu of defections of Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Sanjay Kumar, Congress now has 70 MLAs in the Legislative Assembly while the strength of the BRS has gone from 39 to 33 MLAs.
Three MLAs Danam Nagender, Kadiyam Srihari, Tellam Venkat Rao joined the Congress from BRS before Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress is reportedly aiming for a two-thirds majority in the Assembly, which means it needs 80 MLAs. It currently has 71 MLAs if the CPI (M) ally is taken into consideration.
