Taliban grateful for India’s relentless help after Afghanistan script T20 World Cup history

New Delhi: Afghanistan created history on Tuesday after they stormed into their maiden T20 World Cup semifinal by decimating Bangladesh in the Super Eight clash. As the team reached the penultimate game of the showpiece event, the Taliban thanked India for the capacity building that has been provided by Delhi for so many years.

As per a report published in WION, Taliban’s Head of the Political Office, Suhail Shaheen in an interview with the new channel thanked India for its relentless support to the nation helping in capacity building of the Afghanistan Cricket team.

He said that “We are thankful for India’s continuous help in capacity building of the Afghan Cricket Team. We really appreciate that.”

India provides aid

Since the last many years, India has provided capacity building to the Afghanistan cricket by providing training to the players in Indian stadiums and sponsorship by Indian companies among a many other things. Not just this, Delhi’s role and support was pivotal in building the Kandahar cricket stadium with a grant of 1 million dollars.

In what was considered as a heartfelt gesture by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida was provided as a temporary home-ground for the Afghan team. Another home ground was provided in Dehradun as the war-torn nation lacked practicing facilities at home.

There is a reason why the Taliban has thanked India and repeated it several times as India was the country which hosted Afghanistan’s first-ever Test match in 2018, which was a significant milestone for the Afghan cricket team. The Indian Premier League, where the Afghans cricketers get to play a lot cricket and get a lot of exposure has also been pivotal in the growth of their cricket.
