Thrissur: The Orthodox church has come out heavily against the LDF government stating that the state government has miserably failed in enacting the Supreme Court order dated July, 2017 where the apex court has upheld the orthodox church the rights to administer churches under Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church as per the 1937 constitution of the Malankara Church.
The president of Orthodox Church media wing, Yohanan Mar Diascoros Metropolitan said that the government with the help of the police department are hand-in-glow in scuttling the order by conspiring with few people within the church.
“In six prominent churches under the Thrissur and Angamaly dioceses, the state government and the police have failed in enacting the High Court order which stated that the Supreme Courts order in 2017 should be implemented. This is a insult to the legal system in our country as they are challenging the order. A section of people is trying to scuttle the transfer process by using muscle power by trying to gang up near the churches and create an atmosphere of fear. This is nothing but a drama to curtail the law enactment procedure”, said the Orthodox wing media president.
He added that women and children are being shielded by few priests and for which there are audio messages that are being shared among the people.
“Government officials who are supporting such illegal activities by closing their eyes is equivalent to those who are disobeying the legal system in our country”, he added.
The Supreme Court in its verdict on July 3, 2017 gave the Orthodox group control over more than 1,100 parishes and their churches.
However, the Jacobite section held massive protests which led to violent incidents being reported in many parts of central Kerala. Many churches that belonged to Jacobite section witnessed chaotic scenes following which the state government had to intervene. However, the Kerala High Court had to intervene in the matter and had to direct the state government that the ownership of all the six churches under the Jacobite faction had to be handed over to the Orthodox church.
