Virat Kohli’s T20 World Cup triumph post becomes most-liked Instagram photo in India

New Delhi: Former India skipper Virat Kohli broke the internet on Saturday after he posted a heartwarming message about his team’s win in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa.

Rohit Sharma and Co. beat South Africa by 7 runs in the final and ended India’s 11-year ICC trophy drought. The star Indian batter broke down in tears after the match and also celebrated his first T20 World Cup title win with his teammates.

Kohli struggled in the T20 World Cup 2024 but he stepped up on the big occasion and scored 76 runs off 59 balls, his remarkable knock was laced with six boundaries and two maximums. His match-winning knock helped India to post 176 runs on the scoreboard in the 20 overs.

Kohli also announced his T20I retirement after winning the World Cup and said “This was my last t20 World Cup, and this is what we wanted to achieve. One day you feel you can’t get a run, then things happen. God is great, and I got the job done for the team on the day it mattered”.

“Now or never, last T20 for India, wanted to make the most of it. Wanted to lift the cup, wanted to respect the situation rather than force it. This was an open secret, it’s time for the next generation to take over, some amazing players will take the team forward and keep the flag waving high” he added.

The star Indian batter posted a photo on his official Instagram  account with the caption “Couldn’t have dreamt of a better day than this. God is great and I bow my head in gratitude. We finally did it”. His post has since garnered over 17 million likes and has already become the most-liked picture on Instagram in India.  Kohli’s post was  also liked by many famous sports personalities including David Beckham, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr.

Rohit, Jadeja announced T20I retirement

After Virat Kohli, Indian Captain Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja have also announced their retirement from the shorter format. Rohit confirmed his retirement in the post-match press conference while Jadeja shared an Instagram post to confirm his retirement from T20Is.
