New Delhi: Spain will face England in the EURO 2024 final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Monday. The clash is a great opportunity for the Three Lions to win their maiden European Championship while Spain will target a record-breaking fourth title.
Former India Football captain Bhaichung Bhutia has backed Spain to win the Euro 2024 final and said that they have the upper chance in the final because they looked technically good and played great football.
“Spain definitely is going to have upper hand in the final because the way they’ve been playing, the team is completely balanced. They look technically so good, they have been outstanding with six out of six wins. They’re definitely a team which is in form” Bhutia told PTI Videos in an interview.
He also praised Lamine Yamal and said that we will see him winning the Ballon d’Or in the next seven to eight years.
“The quality and football brains, we can see quite a lot in him. Seven to eight years down the line, I’m sure, we will be seeing him as a contender or winner of the Footballer of the Year, Ballon d’Or. He might be getting quite a few in his career in years to come,” Bhutia said of Yamal.
Bhutia also picked Nico Williams as a game-changing player and said that he could be a big surprise in the final because he’s got the pace. He also said that if Williams gets his judgement right, he can create huge problems for England.
‘Never been a fan of Southgate’s formation’: Bhaichung Bhutia
He also said that he didn’t pick England as the favourites to win the final because he is not a fan of Southgate’s defensive formation. He also said that England plays defensive football and is not positive-minded.
“The kind of quality players they have, they should be playing free-flowing, attacking football, what Spain does,” Bhutia told PTI.
