New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the revised schedule of the limited-over series against Sri Lanka. The start of the series was pushed by a day to July 27. The Men in Blue will face Sri Lanka in 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.
Originally the first T20I match was scheduled to be played on July 26 but now it will be held on July 27. The remaining two T20I matches will be played on July 28 and July 30 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. The ODI series initially was scheduled to start on August 1, will now begin on August 2.
The remaining two games will be played on August 4 and August 7, with all the matches to be held at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The Men in Blue have not played any white-ball bilateral series against Sri Lanka since 2021. Last time when India played a limited-over series against the Island nation, Shikhar Dhawan captained the team and Rahul Dravid was the stand-in coach.
Rohit, Virat and Bumrah to be rested
The BCCI is yet to announce the squad for the limited-over series against Sri Lanka. However, as per the media reports, World Cup-winning trio Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah will be rested from the ODI series. The upcoming tour to Sri Lanka also marks the debut assignment for new head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have announced their retirement from T20I cricket and now will focus on the upcoming World Test Championship and Champions Trophy. Notably, India will only play six ODI matches before the Champions Trophy, three against Sri Lanka and three against England. According to reports, KL Rahul will lead the ODI team in Rohit’s absence while Hardik Pandya will take the charge in T20I series.
