New Delhi: India Champions defeated Pakistan Champions by 5 wickets in the final to win the inaugural edition of the World Championship of Legends in Birmingham on Sunday. While India Champions dominated the proceedings with the bat and the ball, Robin Uthappa won hearts with his brilliant gesture for the injured Misbah-ul-Haq during the game.

In a heartwarming display of sportsmanship, former India batter Uthappa came to the rescue of former Pakistan captain Misbah, who pulled his hamstring while batting in the final. Misbah was seen limping and had to retire hurt in the final after scoring 18 runs off 15 balls against India Champions.

Seeing Misbha struggle to walk, Uthappa, who was keeping the wickets for India Champions, came forward to help the former Pakistan batter. Uthappa gave Misbah his shoulder to help him move and leave the ground. The camaraderie between the duo and Uthappa’s nice gesture for his opponent was appreciated by many on social media.

India beat Pakistan to win World Championship of Legends title

It was a hard-fought final between the teams as India Champions won in the last over to lift the elusive trophy. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Pakistan Champions didn’t get off to a good start. But they managed to post a fighting total of 156 runs on the board with the help of a crucial knock of 41 runs form Shoaib Malik and vital contributions from the likes of Kamran Akmal (24) and Shoaib Maqsood (21).

In reply, India Champions chased down the target with five balls to spare. India Champions too got off to a shaky start, losing two of their top three cheaply. However, a sublime knock of 50 runs off 30 balls from Ambati Rayudu and Yusuf Pathan’s quickfire 30 off 16 balls helped the Yuvraj Singh-led side comfortably chase down the target in 19.1 overs.

Rayudu bagged the Player of the Match award for his 50 off 30 balls which was the highest score by any batter in the final.
