New Delhi: Spain won their fourth European Championship after registering a 2-1 win over England in Olympiastadion, Berlin. With this win, Dani Carvajal and Nacho joined the distinguished list of winning the UEFA Euro Championship and UEFA Champions League the same summer.
The duo had previously lifted the Champions League trophy for Real Madrid back in June. Their win on Sunday also prevented their Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham of England from entering the same group. Only 10 players had previously achieved this rare feat. The last time Real Madrid players achieved this feat were Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe, who won the Euro for Portugal in 2016 before winning the Champions League for the club.
Despite Spain winning the Euros three times before Sunday and Spanish clubs winning the UCL twenty times, Spain have never had a double success in the European championship. Even though Joselu was part of the Madrid team that won against Dortmund, the 34-year-old was an unused substitute during Spain’s game against England. For a player to be called a ‘double winner, ‘ they must appear in both the winning finals.
Earlier in the game, Nico Williams opened the deadlock two minutes into the second half. Cole Palmer, though, scored back in the 77th minute. However, England fell short once Mikel Oyarzabal doubled the Spanish effort.
They recorded a 100% win in this tournament, which is a record in itself. Spain now have the most Euro titles to their names.
Spanish midfielder Rodri was declared Man of the Tournament after forming an important central-midfield partnership with Fabian Ruiz, with fellow winger Lamine Yamal declared the Young Player of the Tournament.
Spain clearly dominated every aspect of the game. Praise for the team came from every corner of the world, with the English coach Gareth Southgate hailing La Roja as the better team on the day.
As Spain lifted their fourth Euro title, Carvajal and Nacho achieved a feat that only 10 players before them had achieved. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
