New Delhi: Amid the talks of legal trouble, star Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was penalised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching its code of conduct. Shakib was fined 10 percent of his match fee and also handed one demerit point for Level 1 breach of its code of conduct.
The star Bangladesh player had thrown the ball at Mohammed Rizwan in frustration during the fifth and final day of the Rawalpindi Test match against Bangladesh, after the batter backed away. The ball flew above the head of Rizwan straight to wicketkeeper Litton Das. Meanwhile, Pakistan were docked six pints on the World Test Championship (WTC) table while Bangladesh were penalised three points for maintaining a slow over rate.
Bangladesh found three overs short in historic Test win
The Bangla Tigers, who recorded a historic maiden Test victory over Pakistan, were found to be three overs short and coked three WTC points along with a fine of 15 percent of the match fee.
“Hosts Pakistan were found to be six overs short and lost six WTC points, while visitors Bangladesh were docked three points after being found three overs short of the acceptable rate,” the ICC said in a release.
According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 5 percent of their match fee for every over their side falls short of the allotted time.
Additionally, as per Article 16.11.2 of the WTC playing conditions, a team is penalised one point for each over short. As a result of the loss, Pakistan slipped to the 8th position in the nine-team WTC points table while Bangladesh are placed 7th. This was Bangladesh’s first-ever 10-wicket victory in Test as earlier the Bangla Tigers had suffered 12 defeats and managed just a single draw.
The second and final Test will also be played in Rawalpindi from Friday.
