New Delhi: The 2024 Summer Olympics, the biggest sporting extravaganza, will take place in Paris, France from July 26 to August 11. More than 200 countries are expected to send their athletes to participate in 329 events across as many as 32 sporting disciplines.

In addition to the 28 core Olympic sports, the Paris 2024 Games will feature four more additions in the form of breaking, skateboarding, surfing and sports climbing that are touted to add to the existing weight of the showpiece event.

How many medals did India win at Tokyo Games?

Meanwhile, India, which won a total of seven medals in the last Tokyo Games, will send a very strong contingent of over 100 athletes to Paris. Among the total seven medals, the Indian contingent won one gold, two silver and four bronze medals. The Olympic-bound athletes would be hoping bring laurels again to the country by surpassing the previous number attained at the Tokyo Games.

While India’s contingent boasts a lot talented players who can earn a medal for their country, yet a few big names like Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu, Mirabhai Chanu and India’s hockey team are the firm favourites to add to the medal tall for the nation.

The Indian athletes will be participating in as many as 16 sporting disciplines out of the total 32 at the Paris 2024 Games. These sports include athletics, archery, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, weightlifting, and wrestling.

Meanwhile Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha, who herself was a track and field athlete, has assured the Indian contingent of full cooperation and support in Paris during the marquee event. Usha, last month, went to Paris to check on the arrangements and facilities available for the Indian athletes and assured of the best possible support so that the contingent is able to give their best.
