New Delhi: Team India batter Shreyas Iyer, who was released by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, was picked by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for a mammoth Rs. 26.75 crore at the auction taking place in Jeddah, on Sunday. Iyer had led KKR to title triumph in IPL 2024 and had briefly become the costliest player in the IPL auction history before he was surpassed by compatriot Rishabh Pant.
Iyer was one of the 12 marquee players who went under the hammer first, being divided into two sets of six each. Now that he has joined Punjab Kings, he reacted after finding himself a new home in the cash-rich league. In a video posted by PBKS on their social media handles, Iyer said, “Hello everyone. Elated to join the Punjab Kings family. I can’t wait to kickstart the season. Looking forward.”

LSG breaks bank for Rishabh Pant
Former Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant was claimed by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for an earth-shattering Rs. 27 crore, which is the highest-ever bid in the history of the tournament. LSG wasted no time in making the first bid and were countered by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The price crossed Rs. 10 crore in a flash and as the bidding soared, it was clear what is Pant’s impact on cricket in the current scenario.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) joined the battle as well and in no time, the number hit Rs. 20 crore. LSG were in no mood to leave Pant as LSG placed a bid of Rs. 20.75 crore. Just when it looked like the bidding had reached its final moments, DC used their Right to Match (RTM) card, momentarily bagging Pant. However, LSG shocked the arena with a jaw-dropping bid of Rs. 27 crore, setting a new benchmark at the IPL auction.
