Washington DC: National security officials have disclosed that US had got intel about an Iranian threat on Donald Trump, weeks before the assassination attempt made on him. 

However, officials have denied any connection between the Iranian threat and the assassination bid.

Trump Assassination Attempt Could Have Been Averted?

The United States had received intelligence from a human source about an Iranian plot to kill Donald Trump weeks before the assassination attempt against the former US President on Saturday, according to national security officials.

Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the US Secret Service, said that it and other agencies were “constantly receiving new potential threat information and taking action to adjust resources as needed.” 

He added, “We cannot comment on any specific threat stream, other than to say that the Secret Service takes threats seriously and responds accordingly.”

‘Iranian Threat Not Connected To Pennsylvania Shooting’

Officials, however, said that there is no known connection between this Iranian plot and the 20-year-old who attempted to assassinate Trump on Saturday.

Donald Trump‘s Security Heightened Following Threat

Amid reports of potential threats to Trump, former US President’s security was heightened.

The national security official also confirmed that the US Secret Service and the Trump campaign were notified of the Iranian threat.

21-Year-Old Male Suspect Arrested Near Ongoing RNC

In another news, a 21-year-old man who was armed with an AK-47 has been arrested from near the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee.

This arrest of the male suspect comes days after the assassination attempt made on Donald Trump during his rally in Pennsylvania.

He has been arrested but his intentions still remain unclear.

Assassination Attempt On Donald Trump

It was on Saturday, during a rally in Pennsylvania when multiple bullets were fired in Donald Trump‘s direction.

One bullet grazed the former US President’s ear when he ducked behind the podium and then immediately, the US Secret Service officials took him away from the venue.

A member of the audience was killed in the shooting and two others were seriously injured.

The shooter, identified as the 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot dead by the Secret Service, soon after the incident.
