New Delhi: With the Paris 2024 Olympics knocking at the doorstep, a strong Indian contingent of over 100 athletes will represent the nation at the biggest sporting extravaganza. The Paris Games will begin on July 26 and will run till August 11. Athletes from over 200 countries will participate in the global showpiece event which will feature 32 sporting disciplines.
Out of the total 32 sports, India will feature in 16 of them, among which archery would be one of the most coveted discipline for the country. While the entire Indian contingent has crossed 100 athletes, India will send a total of six archers who will battle it out for the Olympic glory at the Paris Games.

Men: Tarundeep Rai, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Pravin Jadhav
Women: Deepika Kumari, Bhajan Kaur and Ankita Bhakat
Leading the archery contingent will be seasoned archers Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai. Deepika was the lone female archer at the Tokyo Games but at the Paris 2024, she will have Bhajan Kaur and Ankita Bhakat in the women’s recurve archery team. This is interestingly the first time in eight years that the women’s archery team has qualified for the Olympics.
Meanwhile, Tarundeep Rai would be joined by Tokyo Games Olympians Dhiraj Bommadevara and Pravin Jadhav at the summer games. Both the male archers secured direct quote for the games but they were later upgraded to team quotes which will allow them to compete in all five medal events.
The Indian archers have yet not bagged any medal at the Olympic games but this year with a strong and diverse team, hopes are very high that they will bring a medal or two back home. The mixture of experience and newcomers who are in great form could help India break the medal drought in the category.
