New Delhi: Following Sunday’s Copa triumph against Colombia in Miami, Chelsea and Argentina player Enzo Fernandez captured the shouts on camera while on the team bus and shared it on social media. Argentina’s Olympic football team’s coach, Javier Mascherano, stated on Wednesday that a video purporting to show racist chants made by players after their team won the Copa America was “taken out of context.”
At Argentina’s pre-Olympic training facility in northwest France, Mascherano declared, “If there’s one thing we’re not, it’s racists—far from that.” Following Sunday’s Copa triumph against Colombia in Miami, Chelsea and Argentina player Enzo Fernandez captured the shouts on camera while on the team bus and shared it on social media.
Mascheraon stated, “I know Enzo; he’s a really kind man, he doesn’t have any problems like that.” According to Mascherano, “you can always remove certain parts of a video from their context as part of a celebration. Argentina is home to people from all over the world, and we treat them with respect.”
FIFA announced earlier on Wednesday that it would launch an investigation into the cry, which originated from Argentina’s victory over France in the 2022 World Cup final. FIFA, which oversees world football, “strongly condemns any form of discrimination by anyone, including players, fans, and officials,” according to a representative of the World Football’s governing body.
The song contains homophobic remarks and criticizes Kylian Mbappe, the star striker for France. In response to the event, Fernandez has also been subject to an internal disciplinary process at Chelsea. Mascherano mentioned that it is just a “cultural” misconception.
