New Delhi: The Paris 2024 Paralympics are scheduled to start on August 28 to September 8. The Paralympic Games are making their debut in France. The 2024 Paralympics will feature a remarkable 549 medal events across 22 sports. 10 more events increased from the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics.

4400 athletes from 180 nations will compete in the upcoming games, including a 10-member squad from the Refugee Paralympics Team. Just like the Olympics 2024, the opening ceremony of the Paralympics will shift from the usual stadium to a dynamic parade that will journey from the Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde.

As per the reports, 2.5 million tickets have been put on sale for the event, out of which 1.75 million were already sold. The Paris 2024 Paralympic Torch is designed by Mathieu Lehanneur which embodies the essence of the Games with its design. The Indian contingent won a total of 19 medals (5 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze) in the 2021 Paralympics and the sports fans have high expectations from the contingent.

Sumit Antil (men’s javelin F64), Deepthi Jeevanji (women’s 400m T20 run), Pranav Soorma (men’s Club Throw F51), Mariyappan Thangavelu (men’s high jump T-63) and Sachin Khilari (men’s shot put F46) are India’s top medal contenders in the Paralympics 2024.
