Thiruvananthapuram : One year since the demise of former Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy, various politicians, family members, writers and media persons remembered the late Chief Minister over his contributions to the state and above all the personal connections, compassion, kindness that made him stand tall among other leaders of his times.

However, a Facebook post of N Prashant, special secretary to the government in the department of Agricultural Development and Farmers Welfare in Kerala and the former collector of Kozhikode, popularly known as ‘Collector Bro’ who had coordinated with a various agencies for the implementation of a series of welfare programmes.

N Prashant remembered Oommen Chandy as a political leader who was distinguished by factors such as compassion, tenderness, affection and a leader who always tried to reach out to the public.

In the post, Prashant was mentioning about his experience at a mass contact programme undertaken by the Chief Minister in Kozhiokde during 2016. He termed those moments as a ‘University study material’ that he had experienced in practice.

I remember the mass contact programme headed by CM Oommen chandy in Kozhikode. I am suppose to be standing near him like for the entire day. Even without taking a break, I was along with him. I was awestruck by watching the manner in which he was resolving the issue of the common people when they approached him in person. The speed at which he finds a solution and the manner he approaches those queries was something i witnessed from close quarters. When multiple complicated issues arose from various quarters, I witnessed how he succesfully managed to address them without any qualms”, read N Prashant’s post that has gone viral.

It was not just Prashant, but many bureaucrats and policemen who had been in service accompanying the former Cheif Minister had remembered him after one year of his demise.

I still remember Oommen Chandy sir as a person who was very compassionate with all staffs in his office. He used to engage with us and be one among us while at office. His demise was a huge loss to the state”, said Hari Kumar, a police official who was working closely with the then Chief ministers office.

Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of former CPI(M) leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s presence at Puthuppally, the home town of the former Chief Minister took everyone by surprise. While speaking to the media, Bineesh spoke at large on how his father, a tall CPI(M) leader and Oommen Chandy were targets of political conspiracy.

My family has a very close connection with Oommen Chandy’s family and he always showed compassion and affection towards me even during the most difficult times. Both the leaders were victims of political conspiracy. However, both had the audacity to reach out to political opponents sidelining all the contentious issues. I have number of such incidents in my life to remember about Oommen Chandy”, said Bineesh Kodiyeri.
