Chennai: Tamil Nadu Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development Udhayanidhi Stalin is likely to be elevated as Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, in a move aiming to reduce the workload of the Chief Minister. The elevation is likely to be done before CM Stalin’s scheduled trip to the United States on August 22, according to sources. Acquiring the post will be a major elevation for Stalin Junior.
Elevation for Udhayanidhi Stalin?
It has been 3 years since the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government took charge in Tamil Nadu under the leadership of Chief Minister MK Stalin. The 46-year-old Udhayanidhi was elected as an MLA from Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni in the assembly, included in the cabinet in December, 2022. Since then there have been rumors that he will be given the post of Deputy Chief Minister. His elevation to the deputy CM post has been anticipated for some time but was delayed. But now sources in DMK power circle clearly indicated that Stalin storngly felt this would be righht to elevate Udhayanidhi as Deputy to as the next assembly elections due in two years.
Cabinet reshuffle in Tamil Nadu likely
Sources also say that more cabinet reshuffle is on cards along with Udhayanidhi’s elevation, and it may happen before Chief Minister MK Stalin’s trip to the United States.
It may be recalled that the DMK scion was in the news recently when the Supreme Court rebuked him in March 2024 in the context of a hearing on the charge that he had abused Sanatan Dharma.
