Heavy rain likely in Andhra Pradesh, state government on alert

Extremely heavy rainfall is likely over North Coastal AP and Yanam regions of AP while very heavy rain is likely over South Coastal AP and Rayalaseema on Friday.

Due to the influence of low pressure, there will be heavy rain at places in Prakasam, Nandyala districts, moderate to heavy rain at places in Srikakulam, Manyam, Alluri, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Nellore, Tirupati districts, AP State Disaster Management Authority said.

Similar conditions are expected to prevail till July 21-22 in various parts of AP.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh has been on alert and state Home Disaster Management Minister V Anitha spoke to the collectors of Eluru, Anakapalli districts and inquired them about the measures being taken to prepare for the situation. Speaking to Tv9 Telugu, East Godavari district collector Prashanthi said, “We have taken many precautions in the background of heavy rains since the last three days. We are alerting lower level officials.

Due to the heavy rains, the excess rain water is expected to reach the Dhawaleshwaram barrage. We are opening 175 gates to release the water. We have already examined the low lying areas in Rajahmundry and due to lack of proper drainage in the city, waterlogging issues arise.

we will identify the resettlement centres for Konaseema Lanka villages and move them there when the flood is high.”
