New Delhi: Gujarat Titans (GT) are reportedly planning a major overhaul in their coaching team ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as head coach Ashish Nehra and Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki are likely to leave the side. The reports come amid speculations that Gujarat Titans might get new owners soon as CVC Capitals are planning to sell a majority stake in the franchise.
Nehra and Solanki have been part of the Gujarat Titans support staff since their induction in the IPL ahead of the 2022 season. Nehra was roped in as the head coach while Solanki was appointed as the Director of Cricket. Both collaborated to inspire the Titans to their maiden title in their debut season in 2022 before helping the team make it to their second successive final in 2023.
As per a report in News18, both Nehra and Solanki are set to leave the franchise ahead of the new season and former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh’s name is in consideration for a role in the coaching staff. However, no final decision has been made on Yuvraj’s appointment yet. Yuvraj had earlier revealed in an interview that he had approached Nehra for a role in GT’s coaching staff but his request was turned down.
“Lot of changes on the cards. Ashish Nehra and Vikram Solanki are highly likely to move on and discussions around Yuvraj Singh have already begun. Nothing is finalised right now but there could be some major changes in the coaching staff of the Gujarat Titans,” a source close to the developments was quoted as saying by News18.
Gujarat Titans’ mentor Gary Kirsten has already left the franchise having joined the Pakistan cricket team as their new head coach. The likes of Mithun Manhas and Aashish Kapoor among others who are also part of the Gujarat Titans support staff might look to leave the franchise.
Gujarat Titans’ disappointing campaign in IPL 2024
Gujarat Titans enjoyed a stunning campaign in their debut season in the IPL as they went on to lift their maiden title under former captain Hardik Pandya and reached back-to-back finals in IPL 2023, closely missing out on a second successive title. However, the franchise endured a disappointing campaign in IPL 2024 after letting go of Hardik Pandya.
Hardik rejoined Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans and replaced Rohit Sharma as the captain of the five-time champions. GT appointed Shubman Gill as captain after Hardik’s departure but the star batter failed to take the team to the playoffs as they finished a dismal 8th on the points table.
Gujarat Titans are likely to let go of head coach Ashish Nehra and Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki ahead of IPL 2025. Yuvraj Singh’s name has been linked with a coaching role at the franchise. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
